Chapter 1 Walkthrough: Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home is the opening chapter and spans the first twenty puzzles. It works as a quiet tutorial: each level adds one new way of thinking, from fixing a crooked frame to reading the carving on a pencil. Use this guide to check a single stubborn level or to collect every star the chapter offers, including three hidden achievements.

All twenty puzzles in one table

Use the table to find your level quickly. The last column shows how many stars a puzzle holds; a number above one means there is more than one accepted arrangement, and you will need all of them for the chapter completion achievement.

Puzzles 1 to 10

Level 1: The Tilted Portrait

Hold the frame and turn it bit by bit. When it reaches a true horizontal, a gentle sound confirms it. That sound is your most reliable tool for the rest of the game; your eyes will often tell you something is level before the game agrees.

Level 2: Toy Basket

Every toy goes into the basket and the order is irrelevant. Among them is a toy built from one ball trapped inside another. Grab that one and keep shaking it to unlock a hidden achievement. Do this while at least one toy is still outside, since filling the basket finishes the puzzle immediately.

Level 3: Shades of Grey

Look at the tiny markings above the holder: they show the order. Place the palest pencil first and the darkest last, and check that none of them leans even slightly. A tilted pencil is the usual reason this level does not end.

Level 4: Line on Paper

Fragments of one drawing are spread over several notes. Lay them next to each other until the line runs from one note to the next without a break. A note on which the line leaves through a single side marks one end of the drawing, which gives you a starting point.

Level 5: Gallery Wall

A whole wall of crooked pictures. Several of them are off by only a degree or two, so go through them one at a time and wait for the sound on each.

Level 6: Paper Pile

Make one stack with the biggest sheet at the bottom and the smallest on top. Compare the total surface of each sheet; a tall, narrow page can beat a wide, short one.

Level 7: First Bookshelf 2 solutions

  • Star one: arrange the books by how tall they are.
  • Star two: arrange them by how thick their spines are.

This is the chapter’s first puzzle with a second answer. Reopen it from the menu right after finishing and apply the other rule.

Level 8: Cartridge Column

Line the cartridges up into a single straight stack. The sides must match exactly, so make very small adjustments once they are almost in place.

Level 9: Stamp Sequences

Each envelope begins a series of stamps, and the spare stamps continue those series. If you seem to be missing a stamp, move the envelopes aside; a few are tucked underneath. Here the cat makes its first grab for your things, and clicking its paw in time earns a hidden achievement.

Level 10: Note Grid

The idea from Level 4 returns on a grid. Fix the corners, then the borders, and complete the centre last so the drawing flows over every note.

Puzzles 11 to 20

Level 11: Pins and Berries

Sort the pins by colour and count each group. A group of three belongs in the pot whose plant carries three berries, a group of five in the pot with five, and so on.

Level 12: Calendar Rhythm

Check the gaps between the stickers that are already on the page. Repeat that spacing until the month is filled. When two kinds of sticker share the page, give each kind its own spacing.

Level 13: Decorated Spines 2 solutions

  • Star one: place the books so the ornament along their lower spines becomes a single continuous band.
  • Star two: put the lowest book in the centre and raise the heights step by step towards both sides, so the tops form a valley.

Level 14: Askew Pictures

The trick is that the frames are not the problem; the scenes painted inside them are. Turn each frame until what is shown in the picture stands straight, even if the frame itself then looks crooked. The window for success is small, so rotate slowly.

Level 15: Pink Board

Another drawn line spread over notes on a board, but some board spaces stay empty in the finished picture. Assemble the line first and only then decide which spaces need nothing at all.

Level 16: Pencil Cup 3 solutions

  • Star one: from the bluntest point to the sharpest.
  • Star two: from the most worn eraser to the least worn.
  • Star three: by colour, following the spectrum.

Three answers in one puzzle also counts towards the achievement for solving a level three ways.

Level 17: Desk Packing

The desk has to be fully covered, with no overlapping items and no visible wood. Start with the largest and oddest shapes along the borders and keep the smallest pieces for the last holes.

Level 18: Colourful Bookcase 2 solutions

  • Star one: a smooth colour transition along the shelf.
  • Star two: order by where the stripe sits on each spine, from the highest stripe to the lowest.

Level 19: Worn Pencils 2 solutions

  • Star one: from the longest pencil to the shortest.
  • Star two: by the pattern carved into the wood, going from soft curls to sharp zigzags.

Clear the shavings first by dragging them past the bottom of the screen; that is the trigger for a hidden achievement.

Level 20: Turntable

Rotate the dials until each small lamp above them lights up. Then place the needle on the second groove, the only one free of scratches. Music plays and the chapter closes.

Lessons to take into Chapter 2

  • Wait for the sound. A puzzle that looks done but stays open almost always needs a tiny nudge somewhere.
  • Collect stars immediately. Empty star slots on the level menu show what is left, and filling them now is quicker than a big cleanup at the end.
  • Move things to look beneath them. Level 9 starts a long tradition of pieces hidden under other objects.
  • Count the small stuff. Erasers, points, stripes and grooves all serve as sorting rules. When the obvious order fails, the answer is in a detail you have not yet compared.

The kitchen awaits in our guide to Chapter 2. Prefer to test these tips yourself first? Open the game here and start with the tilted portrait.
